Ten months later – August 2009 –

It is now just ten months since we opened our doors in Howey Place and while we still carry only authentic antique and estate jewellery we have been adding to our jewellery and expanding our range in various ways, so that the collection now encompasses a wide range of jewellery and prices. During this time we have enjoyed meeting so many interesting clients who have called in to purchase, browse or chat.

We are constantly on the lookout not just for prestigious pieces but also for more modest jewels - "small indulgences". We recently placed in the boutique a very appealing antique pendant with delicate diamonds, rubies and seed pearls and some dainty diamond jewellery. For younger customers there are now pretty pendants and rings set with tiny gems, fine gold and gem bracelets, fringe necklaces in garnet and moonstone, enamel watches and gold, coral, gem and diamond earrings. After requests for cufflinks and gifts for men we have introduced a selection of men's jewellery and related accessories, including Art Deco gold and amethyst cigar cutters, antique tie pins and a half hunter watch inscribed "Grand Prix Bruxelles 1910". A pair of enameled Russian cufflinks in particular is receiving a great deal of attention, although a mother of pearl and diamond hearts pair is fast catching up!

Locals and tourists alike are fascinated by the historical significance, striking design and fine workmanship of the Australian collection featuring gold brooches/pendants from the 1870's and other pieces. A simple gold brooch featuring Australian animals always brings a smile to visitors' faces. Many of these are signed, including a stunning opal and gold necklace by Duggin, Shappere and Co. and a signet ring with a singularly modern feel by Donovan and Overland, illustrating that well designed and made pieces retain their appeal and wearability over time.

Many of our jewels are purchased as gifts - for birthdays, anniversaries and other happy occasions such as the birth of a baby or graduation. Rings are one of the most popular gifts. We carry a wide selection of seductively beautiful rings suitable for engagement, anniversary and dress rings from different periods, ranging from splendid Victorian to fine turn-of-the-century, edgy Art Deco and impressive Retro. Our oldest bears the date 1767. Resizing is included in the price and can usually be carried out in a day or two if required.

James Alfredson also carries a wide selection of outstanding and eminently wearable gold jewellery, both more spectacular pieces and beautiful quietly wearable necklaces of fine chains, lockets or stylish necklaces and beautifully styled brooches, bracelets and earrings. However for many the highlight of the James Alfredson collection is the gem and diamond jewellery. This ranges from simple pieces - dainty pendants, bracelets, earrings, rings and brooches to more significant pieces, including some splendid red carpet jewels.

We are always delighted to welcome visitors to James Alfredson. If you are unable to visit in person we can be contacted by phone or email to answer enquries or help you in any way.
