James Alfredson opens its doors
– October 2008 –
James Alfredson will open it doors in historic Howey Place in Melbourne Australia in October 2008 to specialise in antique and estate jewellery. James spent several years seeking a position in one of Melbourne’s historic arcades or precincts to complement the historic nature of his jewellery business. Howey Place, one of Melbourne’s famed shopping lanes in the CBD, is the only roofed lane in Melbourne, making it a pleasant destination in all weathers.
James’ brief to designer David Hicks was to create a salon ambience where customers could enjoy choosing an exquisite piece of jewellery rather than a traditional jewellery store layout and atmosphere. Inspired by Parisian salons of the 1940’s David created a jewel box of a salon where the mirrored surfaces and metals shimmer like jewellery against rich textures and dark backgrounds. Chiavari chairs, a Sciolari chandelier, faux bamboo carved giltwood stools, and vintage French lamps, all from different periods, reflect the eclectic nature of the jewellery.
