Antique French enamel pansy and
diamond bracelet.
A very fine, beautiful and wearable example of a French diamond set and enamelled antique bangle from the late nineteenth century.
The oval hinged tubular 18 ct gold bangle is overlaid at the top with gently curved silver leaves, grain set with 156 rose cut diamonds,
intertwined with an open, life-like pansy in shades of rich deep red and yellow set to the centre with a solitaire old cut diamond.
A small pansy bud extends to one side of the flower and is enamelled in similar shades.
Pansies in the 19th century had romantic connotations, being associated with the French “penser” – to think (of you).
This bangle may well have been a gloriously romantic gift a century ago.
